The Technology Modernization Fund (TMF) is requesting proposals for artificial intelligence (AI) projects that will help federal agencies modernize legacy systems and accelerate mission objectives. The call for project proposals is in line with an October 2023 executive order on the secure and trustworthy development and use of AI across the federal government. The TMF is specifically looking for proposals focused on enabling AI rapid deployment, process automation, assistive technology, improved customer experience, and reduced administrative burdens.

Clare Martorana, federal chief information officer and chair of the TMF board, stated that over 700 use cases of AI have been identified in the federal government, from mitigating prescription drug shortages to detecting cyber threats in federal civilian networks. Martorana believes that the use of the TMF has the potential to unlock innovation and accelerate the adoption of AI in government.
