TLDR:
- Ethernet is increasingly popular for data transmission due to its speed, affordability, and versatility
- Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) is driving the adoption of Ethernet in industries for deterministic data transport
Ethernet is increasingly becoming the technology of choice for data transmission, valued for its speed, affordability, and versatility. Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) is driving the adoption of Ethernet in industries by guaranteeing data transport with low latency, delay variation, and loss. The industrial sector, especially in factories with robotic systems, is adopting Ethernet/TSN solutions for efficient communication and easier management. In the automotive and aerospace industries, Ethernet/TSN is replacing bus harnesses due to high bandwidth and low latency requirements. The IEEE 802.1 Working Group is focusing on initiatives like Cut-Through Forwarding (CTF) and YANG Data Models to enhance TSN applications. The group offers learning opportunities through webinars and is developing a TSN tutorial course for release in 2024. As TSN gains interest across industries, the group encourages participation in standards activities to further advance Ethernet/TSN solutions.
