Rebellions, a South Korean fabless AI chip startup, has closed a new Series B round of funding, raising $124 million to develop its third AI chip, Rebel. The funding will also allow Rebellions to increase production of its data center-focused chip, Atom, and expand its team. The company is now valued at $658 million (880 billion KRW). The latest funding round was led by South Korean telecom giant KT, with participation from previous investors Pavilion Capital and Korea Development Bank, as well as new investors Korelya Capital and DG Daiwa Ventures. Rebellions is partnering with Samsung Electronics to develop its Rebel AI chip, aiming to complete development by the end of the year and begin mass production in 2025. The Rebel chip will use Samsung’s 4nm fabrication process and advanced memory chip technology, including the new HBM3e memory. The chip will target the generative AI market, specifically running large language models and serving hyperscalers.
