The U.S. Association for Manufacturing Technology (AMT) has reported that new orders for metal cutting, forming, and fabricating machinery, also known as manufacturing technology, reached $491m in December 2023, up nearly 22% from November and nearly 12% on a year-over-year basis. AMT data showed that manufacturing technology orders for the full year of 2023 reached $4.94bn, a decrease of 11.2% compared to 2022. However, this figure outperformed many predictions and was the second-highest order level in 2023. The AMT also noted that although orders from contract machine shops decreased in 2023, orders from larger original equipment manufacturers (OEMs)
